Year 5 Food Bank Project
This week Year 5 had an enriching experience jumping straight into the heart of our current Geography topic on ‘Poverty’. Led by our talented new Chef, Varun, pupils began a culinary journey, learning the art of labelling, portioning, and packing a wholesome chickpea lentil dhal.
Mr Singh, from The Thomas Franks Foundation also joined Year 5 and talked about how the charity runs Feeding the Community campaigns providing over 3 million meals for charities across the UK. The 400 meals made up today will be distributed by City Harvest via a network of over 200 charities across London and surrounding areas in North London to help those with food poverty. Mr Singh explained to the children how and where the food charity works, and the children had lots of questions for him and learnt a great deal from the whole experience.
It was a true hands-on lesson not just in cooking, but in empathy and community service. Our Year 5 pupils left with a deeper understanding of poverty and a sense of empowerment, knowing they’ve contributed to making a difference. A huge well done to all who took part!
