This week at Breaside, we celebrated the Chinese New Year of the Dragon with a special assembly led by Mrs Sun. Mrs Sun shared the story of Nian with everyone and explained the significance of red as a lucky colour during the celebrations. She showed us some of the special objects used in China and other Asian countries, such as good fortune decorations, traditional food, lanterns, and red envelopes. It’s great that the children learned about the special meaning behind these objects. It is fascinating to hear about how different families celebrate Chinese New Year. Some children at Breaside also have shared how they celebrate Chinese New Year with their families. Mrs Parson who runs the Mandarin Club at Breaside also joined us and some of the children from the Mandarin Club performed a Chinese song they had learned. They did an amazing job! To end the special assembly, we learnt how to say Happy New Year in Mandarin and sang a special Chinese celebration song called ‘ Xin Nian Hao’.

We wish you all a very Happy Chinese New Year! 新年快乐!
